The harbour was utilized until 1991, when the ammonium-nitrate production at Rjukan ended.
In addition to the original shipping-activities, the property has been utilizes for a packing- and tapping of liquid products. BIS Production Partner IFS AS took over the operation at Menstad on April 1st, 2008. The outside areas and buildings are rented from Norsk Hydro AS. Menstad has twelve employees, consisting of management, maintenance, and operators.
The unit has the primary business of receiving, store, re-pack as required, and ship products for customers. Menstad is a third-party logistics vendor.The Menstad activities consist of receiving dry and liquid bulk -ware products from ships and trucks, to be re-packed into 25 kg, 40 kg, and 1000 kg bags for bulk transport trucks. Other bulk-ware is loaded into tanker trucks or tapped into cans and barrels.
The department’s other charge is to perform inspections of modules (moveable barracks) on receipt, do maintenance, and make the modules ready for rental. This work is performed by BIS Production Partner for Bautas. Our staff is highly skilled within their specialized fields of expertise in performing this work.
BIS Production Partner performs inspections, maintenance, and up-grade of the modules in a maintenance regime which assures that the modules are completed according to Bautas’ standards.Menstad runs a separate terminal-business by renting out warehouse space to larger companies, in addition to the activities listed previously.
