Simulator training

BIS Production Partner has built a state-of-the-art control room environment for simulator-based tuition and training.

BIS Production Partner currently has more than 10 simulators for oil and gas installations in the North Sea. Nonetheless, we still have capacity for new assignments, and gladly discuss simulator functions and training’s adaptation to almost any process there is.

The simulator environment

The room where the simulators are sited is fitted out identical to that of a top-modern control room. It contains all facilities with alarm signals, PA system, VHF radio and telephone. We have a solid background in organising programmes for:

  • Basic and advanced training for operators
  • Training in operation optimisation
  • Training in contingency and accident situations
  • Start-up training

Operation optimisation

BIS Production Partner develops courses specially designed to optimise larger or smaller sections of the process plant. Practical training takes place more often in the simulator. The courses are tailored specially as required. We include essential theory to ensure participants gain adequate understanding of how the process works. Then we train on practical situations to see if the practice corresponds with the theory.

Compressor operation

With both operative and maintenance personnel BIS Production Partner has an arrangement for compressor training. The courses contain a general section on compressor theory. For operative crews we also carry out training on the actual compressors sited at the plant/installation

Control room training

A process plant in normal operation has few disturbances to operation and runs steadily over long periods of time. The drawback with this is that the operators gain little experience in dealing with operation complications, shutdown and start-up. Our training programmes cover these situations, where the emphasis is on realistic exercises from the operator’s normal day in the control room. Particular focus is given to process-technical safety aspects.

Crisis handling

Process technicians shall be prepared for situations that are critical and can result in extreme stress. Our facilities therefore contain a control room and instructor room. Combined these provide a complete set-up for training in crisis situations.

BIS Production Partner has also trial-testing of flexible training set-ups for crisis handling and contingency situations. Examples are:

  • Any form for critical process situations
  • Helicopter accidents
  • Man-overboard situations
  • Fires in process plant.

Start-up of new plant

We have worthwhile experience in employing the process simulator in connection with engineering, building, conversions and modifications of process plant.

Examples of application areas for the simulator with plant start-up are:

  • Testing control and regulating logic
  • Filtering of alarms
  • Adjusting appearance of process images
  • Demonstrating different solutions
  • Carrying out Criop analysis (man-machine analysis)
  • Preparing start-up procedures and work descriptions
  • Carrying out simulation trials on emergency shutdown and process shutdown system.

It is an advantage if the simulator programme is developed as soon as the necessary process specifications are ready. The programme can then be used by project, operative and maintenance personnel for trial-testing and training well in advance of the start-up.

Development of simulators

We have a solid background in the development of training simulators for the process industry. We assist with planning, choice of supplier and with quality assurance and development of the simulator.
